The 38th character in the Assamese alphabet.It is no longer used in the Bengali language itself. It mostly represents the sound corresponding to RA, but is used in Pali to represent the sound corresponding to VA. Similar solution was applied to Devanagari ब ( “ ba ” ) but for "ba" sound. The Bengali plosives are subdivided into five classes, according to their place of articulation.
